SHUFFLE and Gabriel in Marburg

Three members of the SHUFFLE team pose in front of a banner with the German inscription "Welcome to the VBS Congress". The painted image of the character Gabriel is inserted in realistic size in the midst of the people.

Last week, part of the AP06 team was at the 37th VBS Congress in Marburg (Verband für Blinden- und Sehbehindertenpädagogik).

In interesting lectures, workshops, exhibitions of aids and self-awareness training, Ann-Katrin, Niklas, Frank, Markus and Patricia were able to immerse themselves in the current discourses of education for the blind and visually impaired. Despite or perhaps even thanks to the consistently bad weather, the congress was very well attended with almost 700 participants.

After the team had already diligently distributed the visually and tactilely designed flyers for the persona “Gabriel” during the week, the time had finally come on Thursday afternoon: BlindDate and Gabriel go live! The auditorium of the Blista (Institute for Studies for the Blind in Marburg) was filled with around 50 interested people, who listened eagerly to the presentation on BlindDate and were answered a few questions afterwards.

Gabriel is the first persona of the website that can now be visited and he represents students with a visual impairment. BlindDate is still under construction and more personas with other impairments will follow – feedback, both on the technical implementation and the content, is therefore very welcome and can be given in a directly connected survey after visiting the Gabriel page.
